Tips For Getting Around Lake Tahoe Without A Car

No car? No problem! Lake Tahoe is a great vacation destination to explore on foot, or by bus, trolley, water taxi… The list goes on and on! Here are some of our favorite options for exploring Lake Tahoe without a car.
Walk, Bike, or Scoot your Way Around Town
It’s easy to explore this amazing area on foot! We have over 50 miles of walking and biking paths around the lake. We even plow some of them in the winter for year-round access! If you’re looking for something a little speedier, you can rent a bike or get in on the seasonal scooter-share action through Lime!
Take a Trolley
The Nifty 50 Trolleys are such a cool way to get around Lake Tahoe! Trolley service runs from June – September with pickup and drop off right here at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel!
Lakeside Water Taxi
Beat the summertime traffic by catching a water taxi! Catch the Lakeside Water Taxi from Camp Richardson, Lakeside, Round Hill Pines, or Timber Cove and you’ll enjoy your trip as much as you will getting to your destination! Please note, the Lakeside Water Taxi is currently not operating, but will be a great transportation option again in the future!
Lake Tahoe Water Trail
With 72-miles of shoreline at our disposal, you can bet that traveling around Lake Tahoe by water is a great way to explore! There are 20 public launch/landing sites on the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is comfortably nestled between two access points, the Nevada Beach & Campground – LTWT Trailhead and the El Dorado Beach & Boat Ramp/Lakeview Commons – LTWT Trailhead.
Hop on a Sightseeing Shuttle
Discover Lake Tahoe Sightseeing Tours offers scenic bus tours and shuttle services in and around Lake Tahoe, including major Tahoe-area ski resorts like Kirkwood and Northstar. They are a locally owned tour and charter shuttle bus company and can get you around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as well as northern California and Nevada.
Lake Tahoe Bus Options
The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) runs bus transit routes throughout Lake Tahoe’s South Shore with regular connections to the Carson Valley and Carson City, Nevada, providing easy access for locals and visitors alike! Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is located just a few minutes from Stateline Transit Center, a perfect hub for catching the bus and exploring all Lake Tahoe has to offer! TART (Tahoe Truckee Regional Transit) also offers bus service along the North and West shores for even more options!
With a convenient pick up just minutes from Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, we wanted to give you some great options for exploring our area on TTD busses. TTD is currently offering zero-fare service on all transit routes to make travel safer in response to COVID-19 by eliminating fare exchanges between transit operators and riders. All passengers are required to wear a face covering on transit buses and in transit facilities to help slow the spread of COVID-19. All face coverings must cover the passenger’s nose and mouth.
