Fireworks, Wonder, and Dining

Lights on the lakeFireworks lighting up Lake Tahoe’s celestial skies is a “not to be missed” sight, and your last chance this year is Labor Day weekend. The Labor Day Lake Tahoe fireworks extravaganza rockets off at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 4, and it is just the tipoff of an action packed month in South Lake Tahoe.

Stevie Wonder kicks off the holiday weekend with a performance at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys Friday, Sept. 2. Tickets are still available for your chance to see the musical legend live in concert.

After sights and sounds to astonish, September keeps delivering with the 4th Annual Tahoe South Restaurant Week Sept. 16-23. This dining extravaganza lines up with the popular farm-to-fork festival Sample the Sierra on Sept. 17, featuring our own Chef Sal, head culinary wizard of Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel’s Echo Restaurant, in the Sierra Chefs Challenge. Held in Bijou Park in the middle of South Lake Tahoe, the festival offers tastings and samples along with a marketplace that includes locally made goods like jam, soap, honey, and olive oil, along with specialty products created by local artisans. Sample the Sierra starts at noon Sept. 17 and runs until 5 p.m.

September is also the time to sample some great Tahoe experiences without the crowds, like Emerald Bay. Explore the magic of the early days of Lake Tahoe by taking a tour of historic Vikingsholm Castle nestled in Emerald Bay State Park. Tours are offered daily at 10:30 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. and begin every half hour until Sept. 30.

There is also still time to register for Tour De Tahoe – Bike Big Blue on Sept. 11. Ride Lake Tahoe’s 72-mile shoreline clockwise and take on the challenging 800-foot climb to Emerald Bay’s overlook and enjoy many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 4024 vertical feet of elevation gain.

Or just spend a day relaxing at the beach and soaking in the beauty that is Lake Tahoe. Guests at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel receive a free day pass to Round Hill Pines Beach Resort, which is open until Oct. 1.
