When things heat up in Lake Tahoe, it’s time to hit the water! There’s no better way to spend a summer day in Lake Tahoe than cooling off in the crystal clear waters There’s plenty of great beaches and swimming spots in the area — but that’s not all. From kayaks to canoes to sailing and more, there’s really no shortage of ways to enjoy Lake Tahoe in the summer. If you really want to get wet and wild on your Tahoe vacation, give these 5 fun water activities a try.
1. Plan your trip along the Lake Tahoe Water Trail
Whether you’re a paddle boarder, kayaker, canoer, or boater, the Lake Tahoe Water Trail is your guide to enjoying the largest alpine lake in North America. As the name may suggest, the Water Trail is a 72-mile route along the shoreline with a public launch and landing sites and signage that makes exploring Lake Tahoe safe and easy. All lake users are encouraged to use the Lake Tahoe Water Trail maps to find designated sites and various areas to explore. Depending on how much time you have and your experience level, the trail is easily broken up into various day trips and overnight trips — all you have to do is follow the signs and take in the amazing views.
2. Soar to new heights with parasailing
If you’ve got a sense of adventure and want a slightly different view of Lake Tahoe, then you have to try parasailing. It has become increasingly popular in the Lake Tahoe area. In fact, it was even featured on an episode of ABC’s The Bachelor back in 2018, which caused a spike in tourism and parasailing enthusiasts locally. While the buzz of the episode may have worn off, the excitement of parasailing has not. There’s plenty of places in the Tahoe area that offer parasailing adventures, including Action Watersports at Lakeside Marina, located less than a mile from our hotel.
3. Enjoy a relaxing cruise
If you’re looking for a fun and relaxing time out on the water, then you should definitely consider one of the fun day or evening cruises around Lake Tahoe. Boat tours make for a great activity with that special someone, a large group, or even just your family. Boat cruises and dinner cruises are a really special way to experience the lake —especially if you’re not familiar with the area or comfortable navigating on the water. We definitely recommend a sunset cruise for a truly spectacular experience.

It’s not all just about the lake itself. There are some gorgeous waterfalls in the Lake Tahoe area that are simply too beautiful to pass by. Cascade Falls and Eagle Falls are both amazing spots located approximately 13 miles from Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. Both feature breathtaking views of the falls and Lake Tahoe that are totally worth the hike. You can check out the Vikingsholm Castle when you’re exploring the Emerald Bay area too! Other waterfalls to check out include Glen Alpine Falls, Fontanillis Lake Falls, and Horsetail Falls.
