If you’re sticking close to home this holiday season, you’re not alone. While this may be a different holiday season than most of us are used to, that doesn’t mean the holiday magic is gone — especially if you’re in the Lake Tahoe area. If you’re looking for things to do in Lake Tahoe, keep reading. We’ve put together a list of must-do holiday-themed activities to make your holiday staycation celebrations merry and bright!

1. Check out the Heavenly Village Christmas tree.

Embrace your inner-tourist and make a special trip to visit this 70-foot, beautifully decorated Christmas tree at the base of the Heavenly Gondola. It’s truly something to behold. It’s a great place to soak up the magic of the holiday season and snap a few memorable photos. Big thanks to Kenny Curtzwiler with K & K Services, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, California Highway Patrol, and all of the other local agencies that made this magical holiday tradition happen again this year! Make a special visit before it’s gone!

2. Go ice skating.

The Heavenly Village ice skating rink is a holiday tradition and so much fun. The festive lights and holiday tunes are sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Plus, we can never get enough of those gorgeous mountain views.

3. Grab a seasonal beverage.

From lattes and hot chocolate smothered with whipped cream to Happy Hour with adult beverages, we’ve got you covered. Kick back and warm up with a tasty specialty holiday beverage, like a Blackberry Sage Mash from The Social House or a Maple Sage Latte from Revive Coffee and Wine, and so many more.

4. Sing Christmas Carols with Santa.

You can join Santa and Mrs. Claus for Christmas carols every night at 5 p.m. (through December 23, 2020) at the Heavenly Village Christmas tree. After all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

5. Hit the slopes.

Lake Tahoe ski resorts are still open and ready for action. Plan a fun and socially-distanced day at Heavenly Mountain Resort, Sierra at Tahoe, Kirkwood, or one of the other great local ski resorts. It’s great exercise and helps get you out of the house for a bit!

6. Shop local.

Still have some last-minute Christmas shopping to do? No worries! You can snag some great Lake Tahoe-themed gifts your friends and family will love AND support local businesses! It’s a win-win. Check out some of the great shopping at Heavenly Village — with everything from sweet treats to clothes, home decor, and more!

7. Go on a magical sleigh ride.

Nothing quite says holidays like a festive sleigh ride. Enjoy the snow, the trees, and all the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe while snuggled up on a gorgeous sleigh, just like Santa Claus! It’s perfect for a family outing or even a romantic date with that special someone. Of course, when it comes to sleigh rides near South Lake Tahoe, there’s no one better than the Borges family.

8. Explore the trails via snowshoe.

If you just want to slow down and appreciate the natural beauty of Tahoe, snowshoeing is the perfect way to spend the day. Snowshoeing is great exercise and allows you to really get away from it all. The 10.9-mile Mount Tallac Trail or the 5.3-mile Echo Lakes Trail are both great options. Trails can get icy, so be sure to bring poles and spikes!

We wish you all the best this holiday season and can’t wait to see you at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in 2021!
